About Us
Growing the Next Generation of Justice
Civic Roots is a non-partisan nonprofit dedicated to empowering elementary and middle school students with knowledge of their constitutional and civil rights. We make complex legal and civic concepts accessible and engaging through lesson plans, workshops, and landmark case studies. By connecting youth with leaders, scholars, and advocates, we foster equity, inspire active participation, and encourage the next generation of informed, justice-minded citizens.

Born from a shared vision among advocates for civil rights education, Civic Roots was founded to fill the gap in early civic learning and ensure that children gain a meaningful understanding of their rights, responsibilities, and the history of justice in our country.

Our Story
Civic Roots was born from a shared vision among passionate advocates for civil rights education. While working at the ACLU, we saw firsthand how many young people lacked access to meaningful civic learning. Realizing that constitutional principles and landmark cases are often taught too late, or not at all, we came together to create a nonprofit focused on bringing those lessons into earlier grades.
