INITIATIVES
Civic Roots is a non-partisan, nonprofit organization that seeks to empower elementary and middle school students with the knowledge of their constitutional and civil rights by making complex legal principles accessible through lesson plans, workshops, and landmark case studies. By connecting youth with leaders, scholars, and advocates, we aim to fill the gap in early civic education, foster equity and engagement, and inspire a new generation of informed citizens committed to justice and equality.

DOCUMENTARY SERIES

Our documentary-style series explores historical civil rights movements that have shaped our society and civic understanding today—stories that are often overlooked, especially in classrooms. By bringing these pivotal moments to life, we help students connect history to the world around them, deepen their understanding of justice and equality, and see how civic engagement can drive meaningful change.

SENATE RESOLUTION
In New Jersey, where only 1 in 5 eighth graders reach a proficient level of civic knowledge, our resolution supports requiring a civics or U.S. government course for graduation. It also encourages hands-on, skills-based programs (e.g. mock elections, civic projects, and media literacy initiatives) so students can practice civic engagement in real-world contexts. Most importantly, the resolution affirms that every student, regardless of background, should have access to high-quality civic education that equips them to participate fully and fairly in our democracy.

WORKSHOPS
We design and lead interactive workshops that introduce students to constitutional rights, landmark cases, and key civic concepts in an engaging, age-appropriate way. Through hands-on activities, discussions, and scenario-based learning, we help elementary and middle school students connect big ideas to real-world situations. Our workshops aim to build early civic literacy, strengthen confidence, and inspire students to understand and use their voices.
ORIGINAL PUBLISHED PICTURE BOOK
We are publishing a picture book that introduces young readers to youth civic engagement, civic values, community, and the power of their voice. Through storytelling and relatable characters, it makes concepts like rights, responsibility, and participation accessible and inspiring, encouraging children to see themselves as active changemakers in their communities.

GUEST SPEAKERS
We host guest speakers, including legal scholars, civil rights advocates, authors, and community leaders, who share their expertise and stories with young learners. These Q&A sessions give students rare access to experts who bring constitutional principles and justice issues to life. By hearing directly from people shaping civic and legal landscapes, students gain deeper insight, inspiration, and a clearer sense of how they can contribute to their communities.
